Microsoft Windows Group Policy Guide

Books and Articles

This is a listing of books and articles that are available in the realm of Group Policy. Many of them are ones that I’ve written–some are by fellow Group Policy Microsoft MVPs.

In terms of current books. As of this recent, fellow MVP Jeremy Moskowitz has released an update to his popular Group Policy book, for Windows 8 and Server 2012, here

Another fellow MVP, Derek Melber, has his Windows 2008/Vista Microsoft Press GP Book still out there and still largely relevant.

And of course, our original work, the Windows Group Policy Guide, published by Microsoft Press, that I worked on with Derek Melber and William Stanek is still out there as well. This 700+ page book goes through every aspect of GP in XP and Server 2003 and covers a lot of topics you won’t find elsewhere, such as GP internals and in-depth troubleshooting information on GP.

I’ve also written a series of articles in Windows IT Pro Magazine over the years about Group Policy, starting with some early articles before Win2K even shipped and I was still playing with GPOs in beta. You can access all of them here
